Introducing Crystalbrook Aurora, Canberra
We’re excited to be expanding our portfolio of luxury sustainably led hotels to Australia’s capital. Slated to open in 2027, Crystalbrook Aurora is part of a major transformation of Canberra Civic Centre.
Inspired by the idea of a new dawn, the name Crystalbrook Aurora reflects a fresh chapter for Canberra’s hospitality scene - one that honours the city’s visionary beginnings while embracing its future as a modern, connected, and creative destination. The name also holds historical significance, having once been among the proposed names for the city itself.
The hotel will have 225 rooms and suites, multiple restaurants and bars including a modern European rooftop restaurant, ground floor award-winning high-end dining and luxury retail offerings.
Taking events to the next level, the hotel will feature multiple conference, events and meeting spaces, including dedicated working and break-out areas overlooking Garema Place.
Guests looking for wellness options to enhance their stay will have an Eléme Day Spa to indulge in a wide range of treatments as well as a pool, sauna and gym facilities to enjoy during their stay.
Crystalbrook Aurora’s design draws from Canberra’s rich architectural heritage and iconic civic style, with a curved facade that takes cues from nearby parliamentary buildings. The interiors also pay homage to the capital’s origins, particularly the influence of Marion Mahony Griffin, one of the world’s first licensed female architects and a vital - though often overlooked - figure in the city’s founding story.
The hotel will be located on Bunda Street, positioned between Garema Place and Bunda Street, opposite the iconic Canberra Centre. Crystalbrook Aurora will encompass the former Garema Arcade building and is set to redefine Canberra’s skyline.
As the first hospitality group in Australia to achieve 100% waste-free bathrooms, Crystalbrook’s Canberra hotel will continue our commitment to sustainability (or what we call Responsible Luxury), with initiatives including 100% recycled coat hangers and timber key cards, zero-waste coffee capsules from TerraCycle, and the labelling of ‘Climate Calories’ across all of their restaurants, allowing customers to feel comfortable that they are mitigating their environmental impact.
